nothing says holidays better than seasonal soap

we’ve all done the classic hostess gifts to death. the wine. the potato salad. the framed photo of everyone in matching reindeer sweaters. those are great, but why not up the ante this year with a few seasonal soaps to brighten up your sink side?

we put a holiday spin on our naturally derived, biodegradable pump dish soap, gel hand wash and foaming hand wash. each one comes in an array of festive fragrances, for under $5. it kinda puts the potato salad to shame, doesn’t it?

they’re only available for a limited time, so stock up on your favorite treats in spiced pear, frosted fir, candy cane or cinnamon drop while you can. it really is the most wonderful time of year.

for the season

sure, the holidays are wonderful. but maybe you’re not quite ready to have your home decked out in festive cheer. or maybe “festive cheer” isn’t really your thing. we get that. sometimes you want something a little more understated. something that simply captures the spirit of the season.

for exactly that, we now offer the warm fragrances of baked apple, toasted vanilla bean and winter oak in rich jewel tone bottles. available in both foaming and gel, the naturally derived and biodegradable formulas leave your hands soft, clean and smelling delectable. they're the hand wash equivalent of sitting by the fire with a mug of cocoa.

pick up your favorite at your local Target grocery (and online soon!) until the end of january.

design star

the first two beauties in our new DESIGNED FOR GOOD hand wash series were designed by method's own artsy smartsy (creative director extraordinaire), Sally Clarke. so we thought we’d conduct a short interview and get her perspective on these limited edition gems.

Sally, you’ve been designing soap for method for the last four years. why was now the right time for a platform like DESIGNED FOR GOOD?
DESIGNED FOR GOOD is our way of talking about all the good that we consider when making a bottle of hand wash. at method we’ve always created responsibly sourced and sustainable cleaning products—from the plastics we use, to the plant-based formulations, to our biodiesel truck fleet—it’s part of our DNA. DESIGNED FOR GOOD is a dynamic series that will spotlight different aspects of sustainability, cause partnerships and potentially even some crowd sourcing. we have so many ideas. the future looks exciting.

what’s the idea behind the first DESIGNED FOR GOOD series?
our first series of DFG highlights the plastic that we use to make our bottles. many companies will claim 25% or 50% recycled content but our PET bottles are made from 100% post consumer resin, meaning that we make our bottles from old bottles. this pre-loved plastic is gathered from curbside recycling and helps the planet by not creating more virgin plastic. and of course it’s 100% recyclable. so I like to think that there might be a little bit of an old method bottle in every new method bottle we make.

the bottles are so different from anything else method has done. what was the inspiration behind the designs?
I love mid-century design and wanted to do a modern interpretation on the patterns of that era. I like the idea that everything old is new again, which seems a lovely design analogy for our recycled plastic.

and the new bottles are shrink-sleeved. why did you decide to do that?
shrink sleeves give us so much opportunity to play with design, color and pattern in a way we’ve not been able to do before on our little teardrop-shaped bottle, but there is also a sustainability advantage. we visit recycling centers regularly and realized that the few bottles we manufacture in colored plastic weren’t making it into the recycling stream. shrink film provides a great alternative because it's easily stripped off, ensuring that each bottle makes its way back into the recycling stream rather than being shipped off to a landfill. this is why we’re in the process of switching our colored bottles over to colored shrink sleeves.

can you give us any hints about what might be next for DESIGNED FOR GOOD?
we’re still working on trying to narrow down our options (there’s never a shortage of great ideas at method), but perhaps you will see a great partnership with a cause close to our heart.

designed for good

we at method have always believed in design as a force for good. it's why all of our products are made using safe and sustainable materials and manufactured responsibly. our limited edition DESIGNED FOR GOOD hand wash series uses eye-catching, thought provoking design stories to highlight this continuing commitment to caring for people and the planet.

first up in the DESIGNED FOR GOOD series are botanical garden and mimosa sun, emphasizing the importance of recycled plastic. all of method's hand wash bottles are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR). so every bottle of method hand wash you buy keeps plastic out of our landfills and lessens the demand for virgin material. these particularly gorgeous 100% PCR bottles were designed by method's own intrepid design star, Sally Clarke*, who has designed soap for method for the last four years.

while we can't tell you what's next for DESIGNED FOR GOOD, you can be sure it will delight your senses, be kind to the planet and leave your hands soft + clean. can't wait? or curious about our other sustainability efforts? right this way, please.

*interesting tidbits about Sally: she's a Kiwi and her favorite movie is 'Pretty in Pink.'

reunited and it feels so good

get out the good china. pink grapefruit dish soap is BACK! we know that many of you have sorely missed your zesty sink partner. some even said that dishwashing almost wasn’t worth doing anymore. we thought of you with your dishes piled up, unable to gather enthusiasm for anything else, and it sort of broke our hearts.

so we brought it back and made it even better. the biodegradable formula and fragrance you love now comes in a handy pump bottle for easier washing up. all is right in the world of grease-fighting.

it’s here as a limited edition, but if it’s as big a hit as we anticipate, it’s likely to be granted permanent status. look for it online at soap.com now and on shelves at your local Target at the beginning of August. it will be rolling out to other online retailers soon thereafter.
